Creating an Offshore Wind Industry in the United States: A National Vision and Call to Action - Webinar on September 16th

In FY 2011,  the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will initiate a formal Offshore Wind Program to promote and accelerate responsible commercial offshore wind development in the United States. In Creating an Offshore Wind Industry in the United States: A National Vision and Call to ActionDOE 's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), Wind and Water Power Program will outline its vision to guide the United States in creating a world-leading offshore wind industry. A ‘world leading offshore wind industry’ will achieve 54 gigawatts of offshore wind deployment at a cost of 7-9 cents per kilowatt-hour by the year 2030, with an interim target of 10 gigawatts at 13 cents per kilowatt-hour by 2020.

This Webinar will also issue a call to action for the nation’s resources to mobilize and harmonize in addressing the substantial barriers to offshore wind deployment.

To facilitate the discussion portion of the Webinar, the DOE Wind and Water Program would like participants to submit questions ahead of time to susan.hinnen@nrel.gov so that it can address them on the 1-hour Webinar. Questions will be accepted from now until September 15.

Related Seminars

The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Wind Powering America would like to invite you to learn more about the future of offshore wind in the United States. We are hosting two seminars in addition to the Webinar cited above.

During these  events, the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), Wind and Water Power Program will outline in detail the vision it has developed to guide the United States in creating a world-leading offshore wind industry; focusing on ways in which the various interested sectors (i.e., academia, industry, state and local governments, the public at large) can harmonize their efforts to address deployment barriers.

The first will be held during the Great Lakes Wind Collaborative 3rd Annual Meeting on September 21, 9:30-11am, in Cleveland, OH. To register, please email Michele DesAutels ( michele.desautels@ee.doe.gov )  by Wednesday , September 15.  Space is limited!

The second will be held in Washington, DC on September 28 at a location to be determined. To reserve your seat, please email Michele DesAutels ( michele.desautels@ee.doe.gov )  by Wednesday , September 22.
